I was receiving increasingly frustrated texts from a friend who was at that event... It sounded bloody awful. My poem The Schism Ring was about this kind of thing in the literary arts, where so many 'women' focused events routinely descended into trite ageism, dismissing all of the feminism of the past, and just a real lack of actual knowledge of feminism, or even of politics really. Young, female poets seemed to think that simply by virtue of getting on a stage that this made them feminists who were 'fighting the patriarchy', only for most of them to then indulge in a bit of 'kill yer mothers' when the opportunity to hound me happened. Interesting piece, Nina. Thanks for writing it!

A so-called feminist calling an actual feminist a “50 year old Karen” just completely exposes the twisted misogyny of these people. It’s something you’d expect a male football thug to say. They are absolutely vile!

"It was always the women, and above all the young ones, who were the most bigoted adherants of the Party, the swallowers of slogans, the amateur spies and nosers-out of unorthodoxy." (George Orwell, 1984)

Left leaning women, say in the mid forties and younger, are suddenly the most pathetic beings on the planet. I recall the second wave feminists of my youth as being able to stand toe to toe with a dude that was supposed to be their intellectual superior. They’d argue facts and were reasoned in their approach.

Now these girls think that snark is brave and avoidance of discussions is maturity and rightness.

I think their cache has plateaued outside of their very closely manicured circle of friends and relationships. I think people are tired of the moral play that seems to come not out of a deep sense of duty or direction but a sense of selfishness; attention seeking. Because it’s just plain mean.

Functionally they’re also useless. Nothing survives like that. These girls are destined for a very hard fall.

This makes no sense. Duffield is left wing. So are many, many other feminists who oppose the idiocies of Whittome and the execrable Maggie Chapman.

I wrote specifically - and clearly - about *young* female left-wing politicians. If you can name me an openly anti-woke left-wing female politician under 30 or thereabouts, please do.

Sad about Rosie Duffield. Talk about the actual “Resistance” - that was her. I hope that she returns to a stellar career after all the airheaded yes-women have fallen into well deserved obscurity.

Argh, that's a real pity. Should have researched her in more detail. She's obviously free to believe in what she wants - her comments in response to Sunak's "a man is a man, a woman is a woman" speech were very broad and vapid, hard to tell if she was just giving lip service to the mantras or is a true believer. I suppose the most important thing is she wouldn't have refused to share a platform or debate with sex-realists. Being a former Tory MP, she'd have been in very difficult company if that was her attitude.

In a just society Rosie Duffield will re-emerge and be given the chance to explain herself and, without rancour, her ideas for a way forward. I really hope she gets that opportunity. Starmer can see this as a moment to rewrite his own biography. If he doesn’t reach out to her, the UK is fucked as a source of global, moral leadership. There is that much to her story.

In this context it's a shame that you repeatedly misspell the word 'woman'.

It's getting very difficult to separate 'leftwing feminism' and 'corporate/institutional orthodoxy' these days...
